What is Art*o*mat®?

What is Art*o*mat®? Created by Clark Whittington in 1997, Art*o*mat® machines are retired cigarette machines that have been converted to VEND ART! For only $5 you can collect paintings, drawings, sculpture, photography, jewelry, glass, mixed media and more -all the size of a pack of cigarettes. There are over 100 active machines in various locations throughout the country. Victoria Brown (that's me), and El Centro de Santa Fe are proud to host the first machine in New Mexico which debuted in February 2013. There are now 8 machines in northern New Mexico (Santa Fe and Albuquerque area). @ARToMatNM on Facebook/Instagram

Now Featuring NEW Santa Fe Art*o*mat® Artist: Corky Brown

VoodooWell Dolls are here just in time for Halloween! By Santa Fe artist, Corky Brown

Find VoodooWell dolls in Art*o*mat® at the El Centro de Santa Fe location.
I'm so excited to feature a new local artist for Art*o*mat®! Santa Fe's own Corky Brown has created some delightfully fun and cute "VoodooWell" dolls for you to enjoy. The instructions read, "To lift your spirits touch my heart for love, rub my back for comfort, stroke my palm for money, and hold onto the topaz staff for wisdom and strength. Gaze into my eyes and try not to giggle. Squeeze me!" But you aren't going to want to poke this voodoo doll with pins -if you did then the squeaker toy inside would cease to squeak!  These dolls have been placed in my turquoise Art*o*mat® machine located at El Centro de Santa Fe located one block south of the Plaza on Water street. Get 'em while they last. Happy Halloween, everybody!

Hey Artists: Art*o*mat® Needs YOU!

Greetings and Happy Summer, Art*o*mat® friends and fans!

This month I want to give a special shout out to artists. Artists local and far away are needed to join the Art*o*mat® team.  Demand for art for our vending machines is greater than ever and I was hearing a bit of a scuttlebutt in North Carolina that MORE ART IS NEEDED NOW!  If you have made art for us before then we want more.  If you have never made art for us but have always wanted to then now is the time to give it a shot.  If you know an artsy friend who might be interested in becoming an Art*o*mat® artist then please tell them about us!
CLICK HERE TO FIND OUT HOW TO SUBMIT WORK!

Art*o*mat® artists are awesome! They get their work seen in machines throughout the country, they can include contact info, websites, and catalogs, and they GET PAID for their art!  It's an amazing marketing opportunity. It's a positive, pro-recycling, and anti-tobacco message to the world.  If you need more reasons to become one of us "Artists In Cellophane" then let me know and I will happily rattle off a dozen.  What kind of art do you do? We need it!

I also had the pleasure of debuting my newest Art*o*mat®, "Dias de los MATos," and excitedly announced its new home-to-be (see my next post for that whopper!).  The evening went really well and I think that Art*o*mat® gained a few more lifetime friends, fans, and participating artists. Special thanks to Robert Lambert from the Santa Fe Arts Commission for inviting us to be a part of this program. We were back-lit by a lovely bright Santa Fe evening so the photos didn't turn out as clear as they could be but in our memories it was a perfect time.  Clark and his lovely wife, Julie, enjoyed an extra day to tour around Santa Fe, get in a hike at Tent Rocks National Monument, and sample the green and the red chile in several restaurants.  They'll be back!
Be the first to see the newest Art*o*mat®!
